Curving River and Flat Plains
Waterloo to Calgary in a Cessna 150
Around Regina and on our route
west, the fields are smooth
again. Ironed-flat shapes in the
fields indicate drained sloughs.
Only a blue riverbed with its
steep wrinkled bank and wide
rough edges digs a curving
trench across the flat prairie.
The sun being high now, we are
left to wonder: just HOW flat,
exactly, is this prairie?
