Waterloo to Calgary in a Cessna 150
We've arrived at the north end of Chaplin Lake, an "alkali" or salt lake, an important habitat for many species of shorebirds. (Check out these initiatives.) Dikes and roads cutting across the water are for saline extraction operations. The Trans-Canada Highway and Canadian Pacific Railroad also skirt around the north edge of the lake. An obliging train provides some bright red colour as it rolls by.
